Advanced Practice in Graphic Design
ARTD 400K & 423 - Spring 2022 - Indiana State University
Simulated Professional Design Practice
The goal of the course was to teach our students practical applications of graphic design in a simulated professional environment. First, the students designed their own magazine with content provided to them over the course of 8-weeks. Then, after Spring break, they packaged their files and another designer took over their project for the semester. The goals of this course were to model real-world design problems, tasks, and practices, in order to 1-prepare the students for professional expectations, 2-help students understand the client-based nature of our professions, and 3-introduce students to realistic timelines. This was a new course for the department that I developed with approval from the graphic design department chair.
